OpenBot is a project by Intel researchers which demonstrates how mobile phones can act as a core controller for a mobile robot. The project uses a Android smartphone app communicating with an Arduino Uno to control a 3D printed rover. To keep the project accessible, the cost of the kit is kept low to around $50 USD. The researchers have shown that even with a low end smart phone it is possible to achieve minimal AI functionality such as person following and autonomous navigation.
